SBMA prepares to hold bigger Subic International Marathon in 2025

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño (3rd from left) joins (left to right) SBMA Tourism Department Manager Mary Jamelle Camba, Subic International Marathon (SIM) Executive Director Ret. Gen. Samson Tucay, SBMA Director Raul Marcelo, PNP Special Action Force Director General Bernie Banac and SIM Director and Extribe Managing Director Rosalyn Domingo Imperio for a ceremonial snap photo during the launching and kick-off program of SIM 2025 on held Thursday, April 4 at the Subic Riviera Hotel and Residences in the Subic Bay Freeport zone.

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) is now preparing to host the much-awaited Subic International Marathon (SIM) 2025 here in January.

Dubbed as “I Run For My Heroes”, the commemorative run will be held in honor of the Special Action Force (SAF) 44 heroes who sacrificed their lives in Maguindanao while neutralizing Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulkifli Abdhir and other Malaysian terrorists or high-ranking members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) back in 2015.

“It brings me great pleasure to welcome all to this exciting kick-off event. We are thrilled to be hosting the Subic International Marathon and to play a part in bringing this inspiring initiative to life within our community,” SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño said.

During its launching ceremony at the Riviera Hotel here, Aliño also recognized the bravery of the SAF 44 heroes for sacrificing their lives in exchange for the safety of the country.

He added that the event also hails everyday heroes such as the police, nurses, firefighters, soldiers, doctors, family and friends who have become heroes to other people in their own rights.

“We hail them for being heroes in our eyes as they provide us inspiration to become better citizens of our country,” he said.

Among the other top honchos present during the launching were SBMA Director Raul Marcelo, Tourism Manager Jamelle Camba, SIM Executive Director Gen. Samson Tucay, SIM Director and SAF Director Gen. Bernie Banac, and SIM Director and Extribe Managing Director Rosalyn Domingo Imperio.

“The event captures the essence of the motivation and inspiration behind participating in the SIM 2025. Each participant has their own personal heroes, whether they be family members, friends or admired figures, who have influenced and shaped their lives,” Banac said.

“By running for their heroes, participants channel their admiration, gratitude, and respect into their running journey, turning each step into a tribute to those who have made a difference,” he added.

As the event is expected to draw around 5,000 runners from all walks of life, Marcelo stated that the SIM would become “the Boston Marathon of the Subic Bay Freeport.” (MPD-SBMA)

Subic is new marathon SEAG venue

The flat roads inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone will serve as the new venue of the marathon event of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

An ocular inspection has started this week after technical officials made a survey on the undulating course in Capas, Tarlac, which was earlier presented by organizers.

Philippine SEA Games organizing committee executive Tom Carrasco said the layout of the original course in Tarlac was rejected.

“The options for the new race will be submitted to the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association after the November holidays,” said Carrasco.

In the proposed layout, the last 10 kilometers of the race will end up in a 2.4-kilometer route around the parade grounds.

Competition manager Jeannette Obiena will help the PATAFA evaluate the proposed route.

The last part of the route, according to Carrasco, is expected to attract a large number of spectators.

The men’s and women’s marathon events are scheduled on Dec. 6.

All systems go for Subic International Marathon 2014

It's all systems go for the 2014 Subic International Marathon this weekend (January 25)at the Remy Field in this Freeport.

This event features a spectacular 42-kilometer scenic course confined within boundaries of the Subic Bay Freeport Complex.

Corollary events are a 21-km half-marathon and a 10-km distance run. Secondary events include a 5-km and 3-km fun run.

The Subic International Marathon is a joint venture between eXtribe and SIM Foundation, which is headed by retired Philippine National Police General Samson Tucay.

First staged in 2005, the event was primarily intended to be part of the graduation rites of a special school for members of the national police.

Since then it has gained popularity as an annual running event with the local running community and then into the mainstream running community of other metropolitan areas.

Fate has worked its way and eXtribe eventually found itself at the helm of the technical working group of the event.

The partnership initially materialized in the 2011 staging of the race. It was eventually firmed up in 2012 and continues to be strenghtened into 2013 and beyond.

The event's slogan, "run for fun and transformation", embodies the overall ideals and advocacy of the venture. (RBB/MPD-SBMA)

Subic Int'l Marathon: Run for fun, transformation

MANILA - The Subic International Marathon (SIM) is all geared-up in creating a different and more satisfying race event on Jan. 21-22.

Running on its sixth year, SIM forged new partnerships with CORPS Movement Foundation and Dilaab Movement, beneficiaries of the event, and eXtribe, Inc. the event’s co-producer and race organizer.

With running becoming one of the most popular fitness and recreation activities today and a means to support and raise funds for advocacies and special causes, the 2012 SIM will support development programs of CORPS Movement Foundation and Dilaab Foundation.

“Running has easily become a favored activity because it’s easy and accessible to anyone. But we would like to make a difference by making running a direct approach to push transformation of individuals and the community,” said Ret. Gen. Sammy Tucay, SIM founder and president. “With the discipline attached to running, members of the community tend to live healthy and clean to meet the demands of their running game.”

“The discipline and clean living fostered by running trickles down to how these individuals act in their community,” he added.

To further foster the Filipino community’s love for running, eXtribe, a multi-sports event company, is exploring all avenues to deliver a well-organized marathon.

The SIM race course is a break from the usual city runs, with its internationally endorsed race course in the sprawling, lush green Remy Field in SBMA, Subic Olongapo.

Runners will have access to rest facilities in the race course in every turn-around point for the 5,10, 21 and 42K race; committed hydrating station within every 1.5K; full medical support in case of emergency; RFID Accurate Timing System, and an uncrowded run with the split-schedule of the races.

The 3K and 5K races will be held Jan. 21 in the afternoon, while the 10-, 21- and 42-K races are set Jan. 22, Sunday morning.

Registration fees are P50 for the 3K, P150 for the 5K, P600 for the 10K, P700 for the 21K and P800 for the 42K. Participants of the 10K, 21K and 42K races can vie for cash prizes, amounting to over P100,000.

Registration: Nov. 22, 2011 to Jan. 15, at New Balance Glorietta, New Balance Shangri-La, and New Balance Trinoma. Registration at New Balance Marquee Mall Pampanga and in Subic start Dec. 8.

Kenyan runners rule Subic Marathon

The Kenyan juggernaut was on full display Saturday night as Vincent Chepsiror and Doreen Kitaka ruled the 2nd Smart-Subic International Marathon. Chepsisor, 29, topped the men’s side of the 42-kilometer marathon with a clocking of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 54 seconds, while the 26-year old Kitaka did the same in the women’s class at 3:01:12.

Each pocketed the top purse of $5,000 at stake in the race that started at the Subic Clark-Tarlac Expressway in Floridablanca, Pampanga late in the afternoon, and ended at night at the Remy Field inside the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority here.

The Kenyan champions showing were way below their personal bests of 2:18 (Chepsiror) and 2:45 (Kitaka), respectively, admitting being first timers in running at night hampered their performances.

“Sometimes the darkness slowed me down, but overall I am happy with the course,” Chepsiror said at the finish line.

“I have trouble seeing in some places,” said Kitaka, also the winner of last week’s Quezon City International Marathon.

“I could have run faster if the event was held in daylight. But I have no complain because the people are very nice and the place is beautiful,” added the mother of two from Nairobi.

Cecilla Wangui also of Kenya, made it a 1-2 finish in the distaff side of the well-attended event presented by Smart and co-presented by the BCDA, SCTEX, Philippine National Police, SBMA, PAGC, Rotary International, Toby’s, Runnr, Burlington Bio-Fresh, Sports Armour and Chris Sports.

Aileen Tolentino of La Salle-Dasmariñas spoiled the Kenyan party by finishing a strong third (3:29:01) and became the top local finisher in the meet. She bagged $1,000 behind the $2,500 won by Wangui.

Another Kenyan in Sarah Maiyo, finished fourth while Filipina Joanne Mangat barged into the top five with a time of 3:34:23.

Eight Kenyans made it to the top 10 of the men’s class, as 18-year-old Willy Kipkemoi Rofich finished runner-up (2:28:14) worth $2,500. (Manila Bulletin)
