Subic Freeport eyes huge tourism ROI from 4-day Ad Summit

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) expects a huge bonanza for tourism establishments here with the hosting of the Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 on March 7 to 10at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Wilma T. Eisma said that with about 5,000 participants going to what is recognized as the country’s biggest advertising and marketing event, the four-day Ad Summit would provide substantial revenue to tourism-related establishments, as well as media mileage to Subic Bay.

“It’s the hotels and restaurants and theme parks that would benefit most from this forthcoming event in Subic, and I hope that they’d make the best out of it,” Eisma said.

“But as a whole, the Subic Bay Freeport would be a winner in terms of promotion and media exposure and that is the best ROI (return on investment) that we get out of this event,” she added.

Eisma said that the SBMA would receive some P8.7 million in direct and indirect benefits from hosting the four-day convention.

“This will be on top of the income to be made by business establishments in the Freeport, as well as accredited suppliers during the event. So the actual ROI is quite huge, overall,” she pointed out.

According to the SBMA Tourism Department, the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As), which organizes Ad Summit, has committed around P7 million in media mileage to the SBMA for the upcoming event.

These include press releases and feature articles in print and online media; posters, flyers and banners for marketing and promotion; official television commercial and radio plugs; as well as exposure on social media.

Meanwhile, organizers would also have to pay the SBMA close to P1.2 million in SBECC utility fees and ad permits.

On the other hand, the Subic agency would earn an estimated P450,000 from the environment and tourism administrative fee (ETAF) charged by local hotels on their guests, and around P60,000 in ETAF from theme parks in the Freeport.

SBMA Tourism Department head Jem Camba said that some delegates to the summit bring along family members, who would visit parks and resorts in Subic and patronize local restaurants and shops in the Subic Bay and Olongapo City area.

Camba said organizers are charging each delegate P19,000 for Ad Summit inclusions like entrance to plenary sessions and talks, officially-sponsored meals, shuttle service within the summit venues, and admission to the awards night, parties and special events.

“However, this fee won’t cover hotel accommodation and breakfast, so this is where local businesses would earn from,” she explained.

Subic will be hosting Ad Summit Pilipinas for the third time since the biennial advertising and marketing convention organized by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) debuted here in May 2014. The upcoming event is themed “DIY Your ROI,” as the advertising industry takes a closer look at the various impacts of creative work.

Organizers predicted that the Ad Summit will be a jampacked event, as they assembled a panel of speakers who will focus on new paradigms and innovative creative solutions to effect financial, as well as social, impact.

The Ad Summit will also feature the Creative Guild’s Kidlat Awards, which the group is promoting to be the country’s most prestigious creative advertising competition. (HEE/MPD-SBMA)

Subic Freeport to host Ad Summit 2018

The country’s biggest annual advertising convention will return here next month with the staging of the 2018 Ad Summit Pilipinas on March 7 to 10 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).

Atty. Wilma T. Eisma, chairman and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Tuesday with officials of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) for the holding of said event here for the third time.

Eisma said the return of Ad Summit Pilipinas to this premier free port “again shows just how much the Subic Bay Freeport has become the top-of-mind location for the biggest event in local advertising industry.”

She noted that the 4As convention had historically brought a record-number of visitors to the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Under the signed MOA, SBMA will provide the venue and manpower needed in staging Ad Summit Pilipinas, with the agency’s Tourism, Media Production, and Law Enforcement departments providing key support to the organizers.

Eisma said that with an expected 5,000 delegates coming from various sectors, the Ad Summit “is set to further push tourism figures in Subic this summer.”

“And we will be ready for this,” she added, pointing out that Freeport establishments could accommodate the expected number of delegates, as well as their families who might want to tour the Subic Bay Freeport Zone at the same time.

Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 overall chair Norman Agatep said this year’s event will be themed “DIY Your ROI,” with the original meaning of Return of Investment creatively repurposed into topics like “Return on Ideas”, “Return on Innovation” and “Return on Impact.”

He added that organizers already have a full line-up of speakers for the four-day event, who are expected to wow the crowd with lectures on new paradigms and innovative creative solutions.

“We are gathering some of the most brilliant minds in the world to enlighten attendees on how best to measure brand success in the fast-evolving marketing communication industry,” Agatep said.

“Monetary profit is no longer the only relevant metric today,” he added. “It’s time to DIY your ROI.”

Ad Summit participants are also expected to watch for the Kidlat Awards, which are given out by the Creative Guild of the Philippines.

Fast on its way to becoming the most prestigious creative advertising competition in the country, Kidlat recognizes campaigns and efforts that perfectly bring themes such as “DIY Your ROI” into reality. (RAV/MPD-SBMA)

SBMA to host 18 major events in 2018

It is going to be a spectacular year for the Subic Bay Freeport. This is what Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Wilma T. Eisma predicted it would be, as she announced several major events that are lined up in Subic this year.

Eisma said that as of Monday, Jan. 29, the SBMA has already calendared 18 major events that include cruise ship visits, national conferences, sports competitions, and festivals, aside from the regular tourism activities that the SBMA, through its Tourism Department, would be managing.

“Subic tourism industry is picking up again, just like in the early years of the Freeport when almost every tourist is looking towards visiting Subic. Now it is happening again,” Eisma said.

She also noted that among the event headliners this year, some will be happening for the first time here: the arrival of two of the biggest cruise ships in the world, the “Ovation of the Seas” and “Voyager of the Seas” onJune 3 and August 25, respectively, and the staging of the Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines Triathlon in June, which will be the first-ever full distance IRONMAN race in the country.

Eisma said the SBMA is expecting at least 43,000 local and foreign tourists here because of these events, with some 10,000 foreign tourists arriving on board the cruise ships alone.

She added that the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4AsP) will be bringing in around 5,000 delegates to the Ad Summit Pilipinas, which shall be held in Subic for the third time.

On the other hand, TF Adventure Travel, Inc., is expected to draw about 6,000 participants for the Summer Siren Festival 2018 Year 2, which will be held here on May 11 to 13. The Summer Siren Festival is a non-stop gig-and-party event that is popular among young professionals, as well as students on summer vacation.

According to Jem Camba, head of the SBMA Tourism Department, there were more sports activities scheduled in Subic this year. The first ones were the National Bicycle Organization, PhilCycling and PRU Life UK’s PRUride PH 2018 held on Jan. 11-14, and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines’ National Age Group Triathlon on Jan. 28.

Meanwhile, Run Bike Swim Incorporated will hold the Tri United 1 Standard Distance Triathlon on Feb. 25, with about 1,000 participants; followed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Beach Volleyball Championships on February 27 to March 2. Camba said the NCAA plans to make Subic the home of its annual beach volleyball event, as it “has proven to be safe and ideal for sports activities.”

Subic will also see spectacular action with the Subic-Boracay Race organized by the Saturday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing Club this February, as well as the Boracay Cup Regatta and Commodore’s Cup Regatta in March and April, with about 250 sailors participating in each event.

The Freeport will also host this year the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TAP) - NTT ASTC Subic Bay International Triathlon on April 21-11, with about 1,000 participants; Sunrise Events, Inc.’s Century Tuna Ironman Triathlon Full Distance Ironman 70.3, Superbods Run, and Ironkids on June 1-3, with about 2,000 participants; and TAP’s Youth Olympic Games Qualifying Race for Asia/ Southeast Asian Triathlon Association Championships on June 17, with 230 contestants.

Subic Freeport to host country’s biggest advertising confab

The country’s premier Freeport will host Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018, which will mark the return for the third time here of the biggest learning event in advertising and marketing industry in the country.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator Wilma T. Eisma and Norman Agatep, chairman of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As), recently signed a memorandum of agreement for the holding of the conference at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center here on March 7 to 10next year.

Organized by 4As, Ad Summit Pilipinas is a biennial gathering of industry professionals that highlights discussions by some of the best in the world of advertising and marketing today, and also showcases a trade exhibit featuring cutting-edge business ideas, industry trends, and state-of-the-art technologies.

“It means a lot for us this vote of confidence from 4As and the organizing committee,” said Atty. Ramon Agregado, who is SBMA senior deputy administrator for support services.

He added that the decision of organizer to bring back Ad Summit Pilipinas to Subic shows a strong partnership between Ad Summit Pilipinas and SBMA. “We guarantee that we will work twice as hard to make the third edition of the Ad Summit a great success,” Agregado remarked.

With the theme “DIY Your ROI” (or do-it-yourself your return of investment), Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 is said to challenge current mindsets on the way marketing campaigns are being evaluated. It will also explore new ways of determining brand success beyond the return of investment (ROI).

“What we hope to accomplish in Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 is to open our eyes and minds to see the different ROIs that can helps us sharpen our measure of returns for our brands,” said over-all event chairperson Norman Agatep.

The event aims to examine ROIs through the lens of clever customization, where a brand’s performance is measured against objectives that go beyond commercial success and cross over to such returns as brand love, behavioral change, social good, environmental impact, and pop culture influence.

“The world has changed today; it is not only the opportunity of measuring money, as there are lots of forms of return of investment to consider,” Agatep explained.

“If we look at a hammer, we only see a nail. But if we look closer, we will see ideas or innovations, or influence. Return of investment could be redefined as return of insights, return of intelligence or return of impact,” he noted.

As a convention tradition, Ad Summit Pilipinas will also be home to Creative Guild’s Kidlat Awards, which is intended to establish “Kidlat” as the most prestigious advertising competition in the Philippines, honoring some of the country’s enduring luminaries and most creative and excellently-crafted campaigns.

“These are all in line with our mission to nurture a marketing communication environment that redefines creative excellence that’s in tune with an ever-restless and evolving industry,” Agatep added. (RAV/MPD-SBMA)

SBMA to spend P21 million for SBECC renovation

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) is spending around P21 million to complete the renovation of the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) here in time for the conduct of the 2016 Ad Summit Pilipinas next week.

SBMA Chairman Roberto Garcia, who personally guided the media in a tour of the facility on Friday, said the SBECC repair is the most important project that SBMA is completing to date as it gears up for the influx of visitors during the summer season.

“There were some feedback last year that SBECC facilities like comfort rooms and meeting rooms fell short of expectations of a world-class convention and exhibition center, so we’re making sure that SBECC is now up to standards,” Garcia said.

Garcia pointed out during the tour that the finishing touches being in the SBECC building, as well as the landscaping outside, make it feel like a top-notch hotel, a distinction that could bring in more customers. “As you can see, we’re still doing some renovation, but already there is a convention going on. A lot of companies have been inquiring on when they can use the facility,” he added.

The SBECC, which will host the Ad Summit for the second consecutive staging, is regarded as the crown jewel that earned for Subic the honor of being the “Premier Convention Capital of Central Luzon” in 2012.

Along with the popular nature-theme parks here, as well as the seaside hotels and shopping centers, SBECC was also instrumental in Subic’s recognition by the Department of Tourism as the No. 1 Tourist Destination in Region 3 for the past two consecutive years.

Garcia said that in order to keep Subic’s titles, the SBMA has already implemented major face-lift projects in most tourism facilities and infrastructures here “to make sure that Subic Bay Freeport would be ready for the big volume of tourists arriving during summer, especially this Holy Week.”

Referring to reports from the SBMA Tourism Department, Garcia said that tourist arrivals in Subic reached 7.3 million in 2015, an increase of 14 percent over the 6.4-million record in 2014.

He also noted that tourists who actually stayed overnight or for several days in Subic reached 1.43 million in 2015, or 21-percent higher than the 1.18 million recorded in 2014.

Garcia added that the SBMA is now refurbishing all the road features in Subic, and placing police and travelers-assistance outposts in strategic areas, in time for the summer season.

Meanwhile, tourism-related businesses are also making necessary renovations and upgrading their facilities, he added. (Henry Empeño, BusinessMirror)

Subic Freeport gears up for summer 2016 tourist season

Central Luzon’s most visited tourist destination is gearing up to keep everything hot — that is, sizzling hot for an exciting and enjoyable stay of tourists trooping here for summer vacation, especially during the Lenten season.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Roberto Garcia said the agency has already implemented major face-lift projects in most tourism facilities and infrastructures here in preparation for the usual surge of summer visitors.

“For the past weeks, maintenance and ground personnel have all been busy with various projects to make sure that Subic Bay Freeport would be ready for the big volume of tourists arriving during summer, especially this Holy Week,” Garcia said.

“And because Subic is becoming more and more of a hot item among travelers, we really have to make sure that the free port remains to be the best destination they’d always want to return to,” he added.

Referring to reports from the SBMA Tourism Department, Garcia said that tourist arrivals in Subic reached 7.3 million in 2015, an increase of 14 percent over the 6.4-million record in 2014.

He noted that tourists who actually stayed overnight or for several days in Subic reached 1.43 million in 2015, or 21 percent higher than the 1.18 million recorded in 2014.

The figures were based on reports from hotel operators in Subic, who noted that the occupancy rate also increased to 70 percent last year, the highest in the past four years.

“This is why there is a need to really work hard to maintain our status in the top list of the Department of Tourism-Region III (DoT-3). All of us should be ambassadors of tourism of the SBMA,” Garcia also told employees on Monday.

Subic was conferred the Number 1 Tourist Destination in Region 3 by the DoT-3 for the past two consecutive years, and was named as well as “Premier Convention Capital of Central Luzon” in 2012.

Garcia said that the SBMA is now refurbishing all the road features in Subic, and placing police and travelers assistance outposts in strategic areas in time for the summer season.

Meanwhile, tourism-related businesses are also making necessary renovations and upgrading their facilities, he added.

Garcia said the most important project that SBMA is completing today is the renovation of the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) in the amount of P21 million. This will be the venue of Ad Summit Pilipinas 2016, which will bring together the country’s top advertising and marketing practitioners here on March 9 to 12. (RAV/MPD-SBMA)

Ad Summit Pilipinas 2016, with its theme, “Come Out and Play,” promises to be a breeding ground for creative insights and an opportunity to discuss the most revolutionary advertising ideas emerging today. It is scheduled from March 9 to 11, 2016 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Among the first batch of experts confirmed to speak during the Summit are Google SEA and India’s vice president and managing director Rajan Anandan, and McCann’s global executive creative director John Mescall. Both were selected for their contributions to various aspects of marketing communication.

Google’s Rajan Anandan, who oversees the online giant’s operations in the region, is known in India as one of its most aggressive angel investors—putting money into various Internet, mobile, and software startups, which he believes can affect the most change in and around the country. Prior to his work with Google SEA and India, he held management positions in Microsoft and Dell.

McCann’s John Mescall, for his part, is the mastermind behind some of the most awarded campaigns in Australia, his home country, including the world-famous “Dumb Ways to Die” advertisements for Australian transport company Metro Trains. Before his position at McCann, Mescall was executive creative director and partner at SMART, one of the most successful and awarded independent advertising agencies in his country. Bigger Ad Summit in Subic Freeport next year

A bigger Ad Summit Pilipinas is expected next year, as the country’s largest gathering of men and women in the advertising and marketing industry returns to Subic Bay Freeport again in 2016.

Bannering the theme “Come Out and Play,” Ad Summit Pilipinas 2016 will be held from March 9 to 12 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) to help advertising and marketing practitioners stay inspired, brimming with ideas, and extremely hopeful about the industry.

“We promise you more,” said Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4A’s) president Jenny Wieneke during the event launching at The Peninsula Manila recently.

She added that the coming event promises to take the challenge of innovative and creative development, which also promotes closer bonding among people behind the industry: the marketers, advertisers and the media.

Ad Summit 2016 chair Alex Syfu, meanwhile, explained that the theme encapsulates the constant need to shake the advertising community out of its comfort zone, to keep it from falling into the trap of focusing on the trials that seem to plague the industry these days.

“Play allows one to view possibilities where there was none before. It sees no obligations — just a wealth of opportunities,” explained Syfu.

“Ad Summit Pilipinas 2016 is an invitation for marketing practitioners to see the brighter side of things—to spot opportunities amidst industry challenges in order to propel brands into the future,” he added. “If you are not willing to take the challenge, then you might as well settle yourself for the ordinary set-up.”

For his part, Subic Bay Metropolitan (SBMA) chair Roberto Garcia assured the Ad Summit Pilipinas organizers that there will be “a lot to play in Subic.”

Garcia announced that SBMA will be spending from P20 to P30 million for the renovation of SBECC to make it more suitable and comfortable for the participants of Ad Summit next year.

The amount is part of the P800-million capital-expenditure fund being utilized this year by SBMA for the repair of service roads, and purchase of new vehicles, among others.

Syfu also noted that industry leaders are happy with the 2014 Ad Summit event in Subic Bay. “And because of that, because more people are clamoring for it, the most prestigious advertising gathering in the country is going to Subic again,” Syfu announced.

Ad Summit organizers also said that they intend to transcend the successes of the previous summit by bringing in new global icons and locally-renowned experts as speakers, putting up a more provocative line-up of topics, and planning a more engaging set of activities that will encourage participants to frolic during the four-day meet.

Another high point of Ad Summit is the staging of the “Kidlat Awards” of the Creative Guild of the Philippines, which is the country’s most prestigious creative advertising competition. (RAV/MPD-SBMA)

SBMA, 4As ink accord for 2016 Ad Summit in Subic

Ad Summit Pilipinas, the biggest advertising and marketing convention in the country, will be making a comeback in Subic Bay Freeport next year.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Roberto Garcia and officials of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) signed a memorandum of agreement recently to hold the group’s next convention again at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).

Garcia signed the agreement with Ad Summit Chairman Alex Syfu, along with Hermie de Leon, Co-chairman for Ways and Means; Angel Guerrero, Co-chairman for Programs; Maddona Tarrayo, Co-chairman for Administration; Norman Agatep, Chairman for PR; and Vanne Tomada, Ad Summit chief of staff.

Thanking the 4As officials for “bestowing honor to the Subic Freeport” by choosing it as the congress venue for the second time, Garcia said that the return of Ad Summit proves just how Subic has cemented its reputation as a world-class MICE venue.

“I said in 2014 that that would be the first of many Ad Summits to be held in Subic—and this proves me right,” Garcia said.

“The fact is, we would be more than willing to host the Ad Summit each time you want to come back and have it here,” he added.

Subic hosted the successful staging of the first Ad Summit here in May 2014, with more than 2,000 advertising and marketing practitioners arriving to attend the four-day convention.

With the theme “Age of Enlightenment,” the 2014 event tackled ways on how advertising and marketing professional could play a more valuable role in the society.

Officials of 4As said the Ad Summit was borne out of the group’s desire to be the prime mover in the advertising industry and to make the ad industry a prime contributor to national development.

As a venue for learning, the Ad Summit 2014 also drew “rock star” speakers who are icons in the advertising world, and who shared insights on the global creative scene.

Garcia said that the second staging of the Ad Summit in Subic promises to be more exciting to the participants, as the SBMA and the Subic business community had been developing more facilities and attractions for visitors and tourists. (HEE/MPD-SBMA)

Ad execs cite Subic for ‘excellent job’

Top executives in the advertising industry have commended the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and other tourism stakeholders in this free port for the successful hosting here of Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014 last month.

In a joint letter, Alex Syfu and Norman Agatep, chairman and president, respectively, of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As), praised Subic over the outcome of this year’s advertising conference held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).

“On behalf of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) and the Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014 management committee, we would like to thank you all for an excellent job during our mega event,” they said.

“It is a joy working with people who understand thoroughly the purpose behind our activities and the quality standards that we uphold. Your attention to detail, commitment to the job, and quick response all contributed to the success of the first ever Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014. Kudos to you,” they added.

With the theme “Age of Enlightenment”, the four-day summit drew over 2,000 advertising and marketing practitioners from all over the country, as well as acknowledged masters in the industry like CCI-Asia Chairman Emily Abrera, Omnicom Media Group CEO Cheuk Chiang, APAC CEO of JWT Tom Doctoroff, and Dentsu Aegis Network Chairman Dick Van Moltman.

The advertising summit set out to challenge industry practitioners to make the world a better place, and provide hope and relevance in the brands and messages that they create.

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Roberto V. Garcia said the SBMA, as well as other groups and establishments involved in hosting the event, “gave their 101% to make the summit successful.”

He noted that the Subic Bay Freeport has been hosting similar conventions in the past several years after the agency established the SBECC as the cornerstone of Subic’s MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) program.

Because of Subic’s excellent conference facilities, the Department of Tourism in Region 3 (DoT-3)named Subic as the “Premier Convention Capital of Central Luzon,” having been chosen as venue for 293 MICE events in 2012, and in the process accommodating more than 130,000 guests.

Complementing the honor, the DoT3 also named the Subic Bay Freeport “as one of the Top Destinations in the Country” last December 2012 for its wide array of quality tourist facilities and the number of visitors it generated.

“Most of the event organizers prefer Subic because it is already a complete package for MICE events,” Garcia also said. (RAV/MPD-SBMA)

Subic community welcomes ad industry delegates

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Roberto Garcia on Thursday warmly welcomed delegates to Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014, as the country’s biggest advertising and marketing congress formally opened at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) here.

Over 2,000 advertising and marketing practitioners arrived in Subic to attend the four-day convention organized by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) with the theme “Age of Enlightenment.”

“This is the first of many Ad Summits to be held in Subic,” Garcia said to the cheers of the delegates. He said the SBMA would be more than willing to host the convention each time the event is held.

Garcia also enjoined the delegates to explore the Subic Bay Freeport, citing the many reasons why Subic is considered the most beautiful free port in the country.

“Subic does not only boast of having some of the cleanest beaches in the country today, but it also has a well-laid out security plan that I’m sure visitors to the Subic Bay Freeport would really appreciate,” he added.

The SBMA chair also stressed that the holding of the Ad Summit here validates the Department of Tourism’s inclusion of the Subic Bay Freeport among the top 10 tourist destinations in the country for 2013, as well as the top destination for meetings, incentives, convention and exhibitions (MICE) tourism in Central Luzon.

“Tourism is one of the very important industries of the Freeport and with the big delegation that the Ad Summit has brought today and in the next years, hopefully, Subic will always be in the tourism map,” Garcia added.

Meanwhile, congress organizers said the Ad Summit is expected to bring about changes not only in the advertising industry, but also in terms of national development.

“We assure you that the Ad Summit won’t be a typical four-day event,” said Ad Summit chair Matec Villanueva. “We will work together to empower each and every advertising and marketing professional to play a more valuable role in the society today.”

4As Phils. chairman Alex Syfu, meanwhile, said that the Ad Summit demonstrates the 4As’ desire to be the prime mover in the advertising industry and expressed hope that the delegates would be empowered and enlightened by the gathering.

SBMA gives all-out support for Ad Summit 2014

A full month before the movers and shakers of the country’s advertising and marketing industry gather here to share insights on the global creative scene, officials of the organizing group as well as the host agency said it’s all systems go for the Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014.

According to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Roberto Garcia, the agency which manages the free port will give its full support to what has been billed as “the event that will rock the ad and marketing industry this year.”

“We will leave no stone unturned to help make the event successful,” Garcia said on Monday during a press briefing conducted here by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As), the event organizer.

The SBMA official also recalled that the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC), which will serve as the venue for the upcoming occasion, has been especially designed to accommodate a similar advertising convention in 2007.

“That has been the mother of all conventions here in Subic,” Garcia explained, noting that since then the Subic Freeport has been drawing more convention-organizers and participants from all over the country.

4As Chairman Alex Syfu, meanwhile, said that “things are running smoothly” as well on the part of the organizers, who have scheduled the event on May 7 to 10.

Syfu said the Ad Summit is expected to draw from 2,000 to 2,500 participants, including “rock star” speakers who are icons in the advertising world.

These include industry pioneer Emily Abrera, now chairman of CCI-Asia, the content- production company behind Living Asia Channel; Omnicom Media Group CEO Cheuk Chiang, who was named by Internationalist Magazine as 2010 Agency Innovator of the Year; APAC CEO of JWT Tom Doctoroff, a sought-after speaker in the adverting circuit; and Dentsu Aegis Network Chairman Dick Van Moltman, author of two best-selling books on Chinese consumers.

Syfu said that with such global luminaries in the creative and marketing field, the Ad Summit Pilipinas will be “first and foremost a learning venue.”

On the same occasion, Ad Summit PR committee head Norman Agatep clarified that the upcoming convention will be a mind-opening event, as implied by the “Age of Enlightenment” theme.

“The principles of advertising remain the same, but the advertising industry is seeking to play a more valuable role in society today,” Agatep said.

He added that as the “Age of Enlightenment” theme implies, the advertising summit will challenge industry practitioners to make the world a better place, and provide hope and relevance in the brands and messages that they create. (HEE/MPD-SBMA)

Ad land enters “Age of Enlightenment” with Ad Summit Pilipinas

The Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) has just revealed the theme and overall look of the much-anticipated first-ever Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014 scheduled this May in Subic Bay Freeport.

A colorful rendition of the All-Seeing Eye, an ancient symbol for secret knowledge, made by creative AOR DDB Philippines serves as the logo for the summit with the theme “Age of Enlightenment.”

In much the same way with the intellectual revolution in Europe in the 1700s, Ad Summit Chair and Publicis CEO Matec Villanueva said that the advertising industry is craving for fresh, bold and socially-relevant ideas – a hunger that only the industry’s most respected gurus can satisfy.

The 4As is currently finalizing the speakers for the five-day event to be held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center from 7 – 11 May. Asked who are on the list, Villanueva shared with Marketing that experts from digital and big global media networks were invited.

Ad Summit Pilipinas will also now become the new home of the Creative Guild’s Kidlat Awards, which is currently being pushed as the country’s most prestigious creative advertising competition.

The event is believed to be the successor to the AdCongress of the Advertising Board of the Philippines. The 23rd Ad Congress was originally set for November 2013 in Davao City.

AdBoard chair Bienvenido Niles Jr. cancelled the event last July, citing lack of internal support primarily from the exit of its biggest members. KBP has left the Adboard in 2005 which PANA and the 4As followed in November 2012 and February 2013, respectively.

Before 2013 ended, the Media Specialists Association of the Philippines (MSAP) and the the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association (IMMAP) also followed suit.

Registration forms for delagates are available at the official Ad Summit website, official Facebook fanpage and through the 4As secretariat at 8134397 and 8931205 or 4asp@pldtdsl.net. (Oliver Bayani, marketing-interactive.com)
